Vince's Point Reef

Location / How to get get there.

Continue along Anzac Parade until you come to La Perouse.
Continue past the boom gate at the entrance to Bare Island approximately 200m further down the hill but not as far as the old boat ramp. You should be overlooking Botany Bay towards Sans Souci and Vince's Point is right in front of you.
There is an open grassy area to cross and proceed down onto the rock platform.

Local creatures.

Schooling fish, nudibranchs, cuttlefish and Weedy Sea Dragons are commonplace here.

Amenities.

The closest public toilets are across the road from Paris Cafe, 200m further down the hill near the cluster of shops. The shops are handy for those hunger emergencies which occur after most dives.

Experience Level.

Intermediate to Advanced due to currents which are common here.

Best time to dive.

The best time to dive is around slack water on the high tide which should improve visibility.

Where to enter/exit.

After you have made it down onto the rock platform, proceed north around 50m and enter from the rocks.
The site itself varies from around 6m to 14m and consists of a higher ledge with an large overhang which drops off in stages to gradually increasing depth.
The site has a lot of interesting marine life including many varieties of sponge life.
Keep your eyes open for schooling fish which surround the area because of the currents which run here.

Navigation.

You might want to spend your bottom time around this area and exit where you entered. However, a really nice and easy cruise can be had by heading for the sand line and making your way north and exiting in the cutting near the beach at Frenchmans. Another option is to spend a little time here and head back towards Bare Island if you are good on your air.

Points of interest.

The ledges and overhangs in this area are quite interesting. Following the sandline back toward Bare Island will bring you across many walls with intricate carvings and shapes.

Tips (from the pro)

Although I have recommended diving in slack water, this site makes for a great drift dive in an outgoing tide towards Bare Island.
