AmenitiesThere is a toilet block above the bridge near the snake pit. Experience LevelBeginner to advanced Precautions inc Wind, Waves, Currents, TidesThis dive is quite shallow so is very subject to the prevailing swell. It is excellent in N.E. and Westerly winds. Avoid diving here in Southerly winds and swells. Best time to diveWesterly or N.E. winds Where to enter/exitThis site can be done from 2 directions.
- From Bare Island to Congwong
- From Congwong to Bare island
It is recommended to dive the second way as it gradually increases in depth from very shallow at the beach end to around 8m in the channel near the east wall. It is also easier to walk down the sandy walkway near the snake pit and walk up the bridge at Bare Island. NavigationThe reef system runs virtually North-South so navigation is very easy. Points of interestMany rocks and ledges to poke around in. Tips (from the pro)Take your time on this one. The reef is around 200m long and doesn’t take a lot of time to travel. There are actually heaps of things to look at if you concentrate. Nav is easy and being shallow, air consumption isn’t an issue. Buoyancy can be an issue, so take a little extra lead with you.
